deepavali and teaching

First of all, there are two minutes left in the day, so even though it's late, Happy Deepavali/Diwali to all my Indian brothers and sisters. To celebrate, Janet's dad was home from work, and we went out for both lunch and dinner; we didn't dare attempt a restaurant in Little India, knowing that they'd be packed solid (although we did drive through the area), but I did get the jones to eat Indian food, which I haven't done in a while now. Hopefully soon.

Things have been extremely busy lately, so busy I've barely been able to even get to my email, or write reviews that are owed. The semester is almost over at SMU, and my students are working on their final research papers. I also found out that SMU won't be able to offer me any classes for the spring; the course I teach now is a pilot programme, and pretty much every freshman who was going to take it has done so in the fall. I pitched a fiction-writing workshop, and met with a faculty member in Social Sciences who seems keen on it, but even if it does go forward, the soonest it'll happen is during the summer, or most likely next fall.

So I've been scrambling around, trying to find work in January. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to send out CVs again for a while, but you do what you gotta do. I had an interview at a highly-regarded school yesterday, and they must have liked what I had to say because I have a second interview tomorrow. Wish me luck!
